What To Wear To Your Photoshoot

You’ve locked in the date and now your photoshoot is almost upon you, but what do you wear? Don’t fret, I’ve got a list of all the do’s and don’ts for your next photoshoot.

Light Clothing

My number one tip that I tell every single client before they arrive to their photoshoot is to wear light clothing. Ultimately you can wear whatever you want, but in my experience, wearing light clothing compliments all skin tones and allows the subject to really pop out in the final result. Lucy and Megan are the perfect examples of what to wear for your photo shoot. You can see here.

No Patterns and Logos

It’s important to avoid prints and patterns of any kind. No matter how small the print or the pattern, it will become a distraction and worse case scenario, create a distortion in the image.

Glasses

If you're having your photoshoot outdoors, it’s really tricky for a photographer to work with the glare coming from the glasses. If possible, try and avoid them or if you have a pair that’s non-reflective, your photographer will really appreciate if you wear them instead. For example, Chan had non reflective glasses. Check out his shoot here.

Makeup & Hair

Try and keep your makeup simple. You’ll look your best when you’re looking like your authentic self. With you hair, try and keep it off the face to avoid any unnecessary shadows.

Coordinate With Your Family

If you’ve signed up for a group photoshoot, talk to your family members and try and coordinate with what they are wearing. Keeping your family in similar colours and styles will allow the image to focus its attention on the faces and individuals that make up the portrait.  Rachel and her family excelled with coordination. Check it out here.

Wear Something Comfortable & Ironed

Please make sure you’re ultimately wearing something you’re comfortable in. If that means jeans and a shirt, or if your child refuses to get out of his Spiderman costume, that’s okay and adds to the character of your final shoot. Also, running an iron over your clothes just prior to your shoot will remove any crinkles in your pieces of clothing.

Generations To Come

Be sure to choose clothing that stays in fashion for generations to come. You don’t want to look back at your photos in ten years time and you’re regretting your choices. Keep it simple and avoid fad-type clothing.

There you go! Feeling confident?
