Australian Diplomatic Political Photographer: 80 Years Celebration of the Netherlands & Australia Relations

Australia and the Netherlands recently celebrated 80 years of diplomatic relations. To commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Australia, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands hosted an event in Adelaide at The Playford Hotel.

The event had already been held in other states with strong Dutch representation and made its way to Adelaide. Attendees enjoyed cultural performances by the Mirning community, as well as speeches from the Mirning community and various other parties, including the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands - Ambassador Marion Derckx. The event had a formal atmosphere with a cocktail vibe and featured a sit-down lunch component.

The Netherlands and Australia have a long history of partnership, which dates back to the Second World War when Australian soldiers fought alongside the Dutch to defend their country from Nazi occupation. Since then, the two countries have worked closely together on a range of issues, including trade, education, and security.

Photographing events like these is crucial, in marking and documenting the relations between the two nation-states. I absolutely loved shooting this event, as diplomacy was the path I was looking down during my university days, having studied International Studies. Here’s to many more diplomatic shoots!

In addition, photographs can help to promote understanding and awareness of different cultures and perspectives. They can capture the emotions and experiences of people involved in diplomatic events, and can be used to create a visual record of important moments in history.

Furthermore, photographs can serve as a powerful tool for diplomacy. They can be used to convey messages and promote ideas, and can be used to build bridges between different countries and cultures.

In conclusion, the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Netherlands was a significant event that highlighted the importance of global cooperation and the shared values that underpin international relations. Photographs taken at such events can be invaluable for those interested in pursuing a career in diplomacy, as well as for promoting understanding and awareness of different cultures and perspectives.
